Youth ServiceServing in WorshipYouth are welcome to serve in the following capacities during the traditional worship services. Serving in worship is a wonderful way to strengthen your faith and become a more integral part of the FUMCC community.
Acolyte:
An acolyte is a child or youth in 4th-8th grade who helps the Pastor during the worship service. An acolyte lights and extinguishes altar candles, helps with baptisms, communion, and the offering. Light is a symbol of Christ. As an acolyte, you will bring the light of Christ into worship and carry it out into the world! Serving as an Acolyte is a worship enhancing experience for the entire family. Parents are encouraged (but not required) to serve alongside their youth to carry the Word into the world. Audio/Visual Technician: Operate the audio, video and lighting systems in the Fellowship Hall for Sunday School large group, MYF, and other events. Training is provided to help you learn basic microphone set-up, cd/dvd player operation, pre-set lighting, PowerPoint and MediaShout projection, etc. Contact: Brent Hubbell.
Communion Server: Communion is served in traditional worship services on the first Sunday of each month. Training is provided. Contact: Christine Hildebrand.
Greeter: Youth (alone or in teams of two) may act as Greeters to welcome visitors from Academy Street or the church parking lot. Greeters are needed on Sundays at 8:25 am, 9:45 am, 11:11 am, 11:15 am near the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. Greet persons as they enter the church. Help them find Sunday school classes and answer questions about location of classes and services. Hours per week: 20 minutes per service. One month per quarter. Unlimited number of volunteers needed.The main requirement is to smile and welcome people warmly. Contact: Christine Hildebrand.
Lay Reader: Lay readers are needed to read scripture in all three traditional services. After registering on EasyReg, please notify Mitzi Johnson who will provide training.
Moravian Love Feast: December 11, 2011. The traditional Moravian Love Feast celebrates the birth of Christ through scripture reading and prayer, the singing of hymns, the lighting of candles, and the serving of Moravian cookies and coffee. In addition to the gifts of music offered by the youth choir and the handbells choirs, youth are needed to serve the coffee and cookies, serve as ushers and greeters, and scripture readers. Youth servers are provided traditional Moravian skirts and blouses to wear. The offering collected at the Love Feast is given to a youth-chosen mission project. Contact: youth@fumc-cary.org.
Youth Sunday: January 29, 2012. Youth Sunday is the day every aspect of the traditional services are led by youth. In addition to gifts of music offered by the youth choir, youth praise bands, and handbells, we also need youth worship leaders, youth testimonies/homilies, lay readers, and ushers. Serving on Youth CouncilThe Youth Council consists of the active members of the FUMC Youth community from grades 7 to 12, the FUMC Youth Director, and several other adult facilitators. The Youth Council is responsible for planning and coordinating youth related activities throughout the school year, leading those activities, and participating in those activities. Members of the youth council are expected to:
Any FUMC youth, in grades 7-12 may be a members of the youth council, but must sign the youth council covenant which states that you will commit to attending monthly youth council meetings, participate in activities planned by the youth council, and will participate or lead one or more sub-committees of the youth council. The 2010-11 Youth Council is now full.
Serving with ChildrenMusic and Arts Camp Youth Servants: Rising 7th - 12th graders are invited to help with Music & Arts Camp each July to help with the various electives for 2nd - 6th graders. Contact: Patti Cook.
Parent's Night Out
Youth from the New Spirit Choir and Youth Handbell choirs serve as caregivers for children through fifth grade for a single night in February to help raise money for Youth Choir Tour. Children rotate through fun-filled activities for a night filled with games, relay races, crafts, a movie and much more! Contact: David Marlette Vacation Bible School (VBS): As Youth Guide you will be responsible to attend a youth training and be available 9:00 – 1: 00 during the week of VBS. The person for this role has completed 6th grade or higher and is enthusiastic, loves children and be is flexible to assist adult leaders in the area you are assigned. Contact: Stacy Harrell.
Serving at Fellowship FeastsThe youth typically help prepare and serve dinner at two to three Fellowship Feasts throughout the year to raise money for youth missions projects. Once the 2011-2012 Fellowship Feast schedule has been set, we will publish those dates here.
