Outreach and Mission Opportunities for Youth

30-Hour Famine
Annually in April. The 30 Hour Famine puts hands and feet to your desire to help students live a life of Christian compassion. It will unite youth group members like never before. And the impact will last long after the Famine event is over. It can be the spark that fires up a person for a lifetime of reaching out to neighbors in need, whether they’re across the street or around the globe. Contact Dawn Woody.

Appalachia Service Project (ASP)
A meaningful and vital mission experience for FUMCC participants. Since 1985, teams of youth and adults have traveled to Appalachia for one week to winterize and repair homes. The ASP team has worked in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. Contact Dennis Hilton.

CROP Walk
October 7, 2007 (World Communion Sunday). Hunger-fighting walk for youth of all ages. The money collected goes to both overseas and local hunger programs. Contact Rick Wilkerson.

God Squad
The youth are invited to visit shut-ins who enjoy seeing members of the church and hearing the word of the Lord. Contact David Sinodis.

Habitat for Humanity
For youth age 15 and older. A nationwide organization that provides materials and volunteer labor to build low income housing in the local area. Contact John Sutherland.

Shoes for Orphan Souls
Collects new shoes, socks and shoelaces, which are delivered to orphans throughout the world. Financial contributions for delivery costs are also needed. Volunteers are needed to help with collection, storing, sorting, packing, and shipping as well as publicity, communications, media and outreach. General program information at www.shoesfororphansouls.org. Contact Bill Black or Kelley Stephens.

Youth Foreign Mission Trip
The Youth Foreign Mission Trip will focus on a variety of social projects in a developing country. In the summer of 2007, adults and youth worked on a construction/expansion project for a maternal health clinic in Montero, Bolivia. This is an opportunity for adults and youth to work together to improve the lives of others in another part of the world.
