Mid-Year MYF Kickoff

January 27-28, 2012

This January lock-in for all FUMC Cary Youth starts 7PM on a Friday and ends at 7AM on a Saturday. The lock-in features food, games, entertainment, a mission project and other fun and unexpected happenings. High School Seniors and Juniors plan the event and spread the word, set up and decorate, help with off-site entertainment or on-site games, prepare andserve food, and help with the mission.

Come be a part of our adult MYF counselor and behind-the-scenes teams!

Youth Ministries needs a variety of adult servants to work with our youth during MYF and behind the scenes. We are looking for adults who love God, love youth, love working on a team, and who are open to ministering to youth in fun and creative ways. Do you feel called to listen, encourage, and pray for our youth? We are looking for introverts who are willing to go deep as well as extroverts who thrive on being in groups.

Counselor Team
  • Small-Group Leader (MYF): After MYF big group, the small group leader meets with a 7-8 youth to discuss the evening's theme. A small-group agenda is provided about a week in advance. Small-group leaders are highly encouraged to check in with their group between MYF meetings and to be in prayer for their group throughout the week.
  • Assistant Small-Group Leader: Supports the small-group leader as well as the youth and takes attendance.
  • Large-Group leader: Presents the opening program on a given life-application theme and creates excitement before the youth break into small groups.
  • 1:1 Guide for youth needing extra support: Accompanies a specific youth to big and small group, helping that youth feel welcome, focused, and loved.
  • Floater: Great position for those who want to be a part of MYF groups but who can only come occasionally. Floaters may be assigned to a different group each week.
  • Guest speaker:  Is there a subject that you know a lot about and feel called to share with our youth? We would love to talk to you about the possibility of offering it as a big-group program.

Behind the Scenes
  • Supplies Assistant: In this role, you will either 1) help shop for and gather the supplies needed for the week’s programs, or 2) Arrive early to set up supplies for games, etc.
  • Programming/Curriculum Assistant: Former teachers, current teachers, and other creative types who love planning discussions and programs around relevant topics that our youth face in their daily lives. This is fun, creative work!
  • Admin Support: This position will help Patty Gothard to maintain an accurate, up-to-date student and parent directory, help with photocopying, and creating nametags.
  • Van Driver: Will drive a van to carry 9-13 youth when our programs take us offsite.
  • Prayer team: Prays with other parents in the prayer chapel for the first 15 minutes of MYF. You may also pray with a group or alone offsite.
