Learning Opportunities for Children
Confirmation
We encourage every middle school student at FUMC to join the confirmation journey! Confirmation makes firm our baptism and is foundational to the life of faith in Christ. By Confirmation Sunday, each student is ready to confirm his or her faith and confidently claim the name Christian. For more information, click here.
Children’s Summer Camp
Held in the summer for children and their families; includes Super Tuesdays (half-day outings) for ages 5-5th grade. Contact April DeCatsye.
Creative Arts Camp
Held one week each summer at one of the district United Methodist Churches for rising 2nd-5th graders. Music, drama, puppetry and crafts are taught each day. Contact April DeCatsye.
Day Camp at Camp Chestnut Ridge
A week-long day camp in August for children who have completed grades 1-5. Children enjoy canoeing, swimming, hiking, crafts, worship and lunch. Transportation is provided by church vans. Please sign up for camp. Hours of camp are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact April DeCatsye.
Methodist Children’s Center (MCC)

First united Methodist Church sponsors this learning center as a community ministry of child care and development. The Center opened in 1967 with a preschool program; the extended day program was added in 1974. The Center has a highly qualified staff of 22 with a total enrollment of 150. The Center offers preschool classes for 3, 4, and 5 year olds, extended day (including preschool) for 3, 4, and 5 year olds, and an after school program with pick up from limited Cary schools for children in public kindergarten through grade 3. Mothers’ Morning Out
A ministry program to provide a safe and secure Christian environment for children of parents who are at home full-time or working part-time (20 hours a week or less). Children of these parents, age 1-2 by October 16 are eligible. Contact Christin Simpson.
Sunday School
Children Ages 2- through Grade 5 are invited to participate in Bible Study each Sunday at 9:45a.m. and 11:15a.m. (ages 3-5 only). Age graded classes use the age appropriate Methodist Literature series “Exploring Faith”. Children Learn about God, Jesus and Bible stories that help them grow in their relationship with God and each other. Bible games, singing, crafts, Bible stories and Drama are a few of the teaching methods used each Sunday to give variety and fun to each Sunday morning session. Teachers teach on a rotating basis for the church year Sept - August. Parents and other adults are invited to teach in Sunday school. Contact April DeCatsye.
Terrific Tuesdays
Offered during the summer for all children K-5th grades. Children are involved in a half day outing to explore God’s world and have fun. A variety of activities are scheduled. Cost varies by event. Contact April DeCatsye.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is held in the summer for children 3 years through 5th grade. Classes meet in the morning for one week. Contact April DeCatsye.
Wonderful Wednesdays
This summer program is a preschool story and play group for all preschool children. Children are invited to come and sing a song, make a craft and hear a story. We have juice and cookies and play on the playground. Parents are asked to stay with their child for this program. No cost or sign-up. Just come and have fun. Contact April DeCatsye.
Worship Readiness
For all 3rd Graders in Sunday school. We meet during the Sunday school hour at 9:45a.m. Curriculum includes how to use your Bible and Worship Readiness study. Third graders are also given a Children’s Bible on Rally Day. Contact April DeCatsye.
