Adult Sunday School Classes

Agape Class
9:45a.m. Room 213. Made up of couples in their 30’s and 40’s with and without children, who study practical ways to apply Biblical lessons to their lives.  They participate in at least one service project per quarter, such as Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network and the State Fair Booth. They have a quarterly dinner meeting to plan their course of study, review service project commitments, and plan social events like Girl’s/Guy’s Night Out. Contact Sherry Hayes 303-0911.

Discovery Class
9:45a.m. Room 221. Composed primarily of couples over age 50 with grown children. They use the Adult Bible Studies curriculum for their Sunday School class discussion.  Service projects include Interfaith Hospitality Network, the State Fair Booth, Wednesday night dinners, and the adoption of a shut-in from our congregation. Social activities include quarterly Sunday lunches, and Thanksgiving and Christmas events. Contact Mike Harris 460-7107.

Ellis-Bland Class
9:45a.m. Room 126. Composed primarily of senior couples and singles, this is a lecture-style class using the Adult Bibles Studies curriculum. Class activities include funding various mission needs. Social activities include working at the State Fair Booth, an annual spring picnic, Christmas dinner and other get-togethers. Contact Sydna Martin 467-1385.

Faith and Freedom Class
9:45a.m. Room 124. Made up of people 40’s and up. Mission Statement – “to strengthen our Christian faith through prayerful study, reflection and discussion of books and other media, inspiring us to live in friendship, love and service”.  Mission projects include assisting with Project ZOE, hurricane relief, ASP and IHN. Fund raising projects include the Carter-Findley Stadium concession stand with the funds benefiting many needy organizations and families. Social events include a weekend retreat to the mountains, a Christmas party and caroling for homebound church members, Progressive Dinners, SuperBowl party, Sunday Brunch, and Potluck dinner/outdoor concert. Fellowship Class
9:45a.m. Room 224
Composed primarily of couples and singles in their 50’s plus. Members take turns teaching the class using the Adult Bible Studies curriculum. Mission projects include Interfaith Hospitality Network, the St. Andrews Project, Angel Tree, State Fair Booth, and hurricane relief. They gather socially several times a year. FIELD Class
11:00a.m. Room 222
Friends Influencing and Encouraging Love and Discipleship - started in Spring 2003 for young adults both singles and couples from early 20’s through 30’s. Focus is on Bible-based curriculum from book studies to topical studies. Service projects are done each year. An active social committee is focusing on events to help the Young Adults in this class and across the whole church to connect and develop wonderful Christian relationships. Friendship Class

Composed mostly of couples with grown children. Their studies vary from Bible study to contemporary themes led by the class members. Their service project is assisting with the Carter-Finley Stadium concession stand and using the funds raised to support church projects and needy families.  They gather for various social events including the annual Halloween and Christmas parties.

Genesis Class
9:45a.m. Room 219
Adult couples, mid-20’s to upper 40’s in age, many with children. The class is discussion-oriented and studies a wide range of topics with emphasis on practical ways to apply biblical lessons to today’s life. The class actively participates in mission work within the church and community through monetary support and hands-on involvement. Recent examples include volunteering at the Durham Rescue Mission and sponsoring Katrina victims relocated to Wake County. The class engages in couple/family social activities periodically, including supper club, pig-pickings, and weekend retreats.  Contact Skip Dyer 462-6235.

Joe Smith Class

The class uses a variety of curriculum topics with emphasis on Bible study in a discussion format. Members donate money to a variety of projects.  They enjoy an annual Christmas luncheon.

Koinonia Class

Members include singles and couples of all ages with and without children.  The class focuses on Bible-based curriculum. Funds raised by working at the Carter-Findley concession stand are used to support various service projects such as helping needy families, supporting ASP and Bosnia mission trips. Parables Class
9:45a.m. Room 222
The class focuses on group discussion from Bible study and contemporary issues led by volunteers from the class. Service projects include yard work for elders, Christmas caroling, State Fair booth, hurricane relief, InterFaith Hospitality Network, Bingo at Chatham Creek Rest Home, NC Food Bank, Relay for Life and flower planter maintenance for the church. Social activities include ice cream social, men’s/ladies night out, dinner groups, Durham Bulls game, Super Bowl party, a Christmas party and the popular spring and fall camping trips. Philathea Class

A group of adult ladies representing a range of ages. They use the Adult Bible Studies curriculum, taught by two of the class members. They give of their time by working at the State Fair booth, and volunteering to help with numerous groups and committees at the church. They enjoy dinner together in June and at Christmastime. Reflections Class
11:00a.m Room 212
This class is made up of all ages of adults, single and married, and visitors are especially welcome. Members lead on a rotation basis each week with the format of an open discussion and reflection of the entire worship service just attended. Individual impressions of the sermon, scripture, music, prayers, are shared as desired in an accepting environment. “Homework” centers on devotional reading of the week’s Lectionary scriptures. Main mission outreach is the Alliance Medical Ministry, for which funds are raised through the sale of take-out “Hobo Stew” one Sunday in January. This diverse group enjoys seasonal social activities and has a history of caring for its members. Contact Charles Mann 388-4278.

Togetherness Class

The Class consists of single adults (never married, widowed, or divorced), and studies/discusses a wide variety of biblical topics with application for everyday life.  Service projects include involvement with the Interfaith Hospitality Network, support of Mighty Mondays, Zimbabwe Orphan Endeavor (ZOE), State Fair Booth, and numerous other missions.  Social activities include:  Sunday lunches, Christmas party, and participation in outings/activities geared to single adults and single parents.  All singles are welcome.

Trinity Class
9:45a.m. Room 226
Composed of married and single adults, non-parents, parents and grandparents of varying ages. It is a topical Bible discussion class. Yearly service project is support for the Bosnia Mission. They enjoy quarterly social activities. Contact Becky Hobbs 460-6741.

Unity Class
9:45a.m. Room 125
Composed of older young adults. They alternate between Bible Study and current issues with a rotation of a core of teachers. Service projects include support of Appalachia Service Project, assistance to families both financially and with gifts, hurricane relief, and the State Fair booth. They sponsor dinners Wednesday nights and host Interfaith Hospitality Network. Social activities include a chili dinner, progressive dinners, Beach Weekend, and Durham Bulls baseball games. Wisdom Class
9:45a.m. Room 228
The class is made up of married couples in their 40’s and up. They study both Biblical and current topics with members rotating teaching responsibilities. Service projects include Raleigh Women and Children’s Shelter, gleaning, Interfaith Hospitality Network, and Wednesday Fellowship Feast dinners. The class averages one major social event per quarter, a Christmas party, and a weekend getaway.  Contact Dave Armstrong  469-4698.

Young Men’s Bible Class
9:45a.m. Log Cabin
Membership contains a wide range of adult men, from young to senior. The class is led by three teachers who use the Adult Bible Studies curriculum.  Service projects include ministry to shut-ins, hurricane relief, and the State Fair booth. There is a spring and fall cookout at the Log Cabin and a sweetheart banquet in February. Contact Lindsay Hodges 542-2234.
