Adult Ministries
Adult ministries at FUMCC include a variety of opportunities to grow in our inward journey and reach others through our outward journey. The inward journey includes gathering in small groups for prayer and worship, study, fellowship, support and service. It includes 19 Sunday school classes for adults, including one which meets at Glenaire Retirement Community and a new one, the MorningStar Coffee Klatch, which is designed to help new folks find their niche at FUMC.
Spiritual Formation and Fellowship
Additional venues for spiritual formation include Disciple Bible Study (including the new shorter Disciple studies), Companions in Christ, Nooma (especially for young adults) and an annual spiritual retreat for women. Fellowship groups such as United Methodist Women and their nine circles as well as United Methodist Men are also a part of the journey.
Many times the inward journey overlaps with the outward journey, such as when a women’s circle reaches out in local mission, or when our church enjoys fellowship together in the Just Older Youth (JOY) group and at the State Fair raising funds for mission and ministry. At FUMC, we are blessed in our outward journey to be able to reach out to more than 85 groups or causes, supporting them with time and talents of FUMCC and contributing more than $650,000 per year through the FUMCC budget, Sunday school classes, United Methodist Men and United Methodist Women’s circles.
Hands-On Missions
Hands-on missions are also a focus. One example includes the 140 youth and adults who participated in the Appalachia Service Project, a mission to help families make needed home repair in economically disadvantaged areas of Appalachia. We have sent teams to D’Iberville, Mississippi to help with continuing efforts for Hurricane Katrina Relief and we continue to reach out to those in prison through ministries such as Prison MATCH (Mothers And Their Children), Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries and Community Volunteers at Raleigh Correctional Center for Women.

Local Outreach
We reach out in our own neighborhood through our Mighty Mondays after school tutoring program, which continues to grow. Once again we are sending a team to Bosnia and will send one to Zimbabwe with the Zimbabwe Orphans Endeavor.
The inward/outward journey promises a life of challenge, of transformation, and of becoming more like Jesus Christ, who invites us to “come and see.” Come and see where your journey will take you. May our lives be transformed along the way and may we all come to know better the One who is the Way, the Truth and the Life!
