About FUMC - Staff

Debbie Andrews is the Leadership Development Coordinator at First
United Methodist Church, joining the staff in 2004. She brings over 15 years
of nonprofit and volunteer management experience as the former Regional Director
and Program Manager for the American Diabetes Association and as Executive
Director of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Wake County. Debbie
is a career volunteer, having served the community through the Junior League
of Raleigh, her daughter's school and as a member of FUMC. She has served
on numerous community boards and in 1996 was recognized for her service with
the Child Advocate Award from WTVD-TV. She is a graduate of North Carolina
State University and furthered her studies in Non-Profit Management at Duke
University. Debbie and her daughter have been members of FUMC since 1999.

Christinia Brown (Christie), the Nursery Coordinator for FUMCC, joined the staff in February 2006. She has been a church member since 2005. Christie is married to Jonathan Brown, and has twins named Colton and Caleigh. She has been an active member of the Triangle Mothers of Twins and Triplets since 2003. Christie teaches Sunday school, sits on the Nursery Committee, Children's Council, Special Sunday School committee, plans and participates in FUMCC Preschool Playgroups and recently joined the MCC board.
Christie is a graduate from NC State University, with a business management degree with concentration in marketing and communications. She worked for many years as a Credit/Advertising Analyst until choosing to stay at home with her twins.

Karen Chauvaux is the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant to Pastors. She was born in Virginia and moved to North Carolina in 1980. Karen graduated from Wake County Schools and attended North Carolina State University. Prior to coming to FUMCC, she worked as a legal assistant for a law firm in Raleigh for 13 years, then worked as a medical transcriptionist for 3 years from home.
Karen has been a member of FUMCC since 1992 and is involved in the Adult and Youth choirs, volunteers for the Acolyte and MYF ministries, sits on the Youth Council, is the lead usher for the Celebration! Service and helps out with Boy Scouts. Karen is married to Kevin and has three sons, Brandon, Cameron and Jackson.

Patti Cook, Director of Children's Music, accompanies our youth choir and other choirs as needed. She directs the Asbury Choir and recruits, coordinates, and trains the volunteer directors for our Children's Music Ministry. She also is the director of the Elderberry Jam choir. Patti is responsible for coordinating the music and providing piano music for our Saturday evening Log Cabin service. In addition to this she assists the Director of Music with worship planning and music selection, and substitute directing as needed.
She was born in Alamance County, NC and received a degree in Music Education from UNC-Greensboro, where she met her husband, Floyd. Prior to coming to FUMC, she taught music in schools and piano lessons to individuals and, more recently, worked as a dental assistant while she continues to teach piano and voice lessons. Her hobbies include hiking, reading and cheering on her husband and son in their triathlon competitions.

April DeCatsye is the Director of Children’s Ministries at First United Methodist Church-Cary. She is a North Carolina native. April has a M.Ed. in Elementary Education (K-6) from UNC-Greensboro. Prior to coming to FUMCC, she was a third grade teacher with Wake County Public Schools. April also has a B.A. in Art History from UNC-Chapel Hill. For fun, she enjoys watching Tar Heel basketball, working out, and spending time with her friends and family.

Alicia Frazee is the Communications Coordinator at First United Methodist Church – Cary. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations. She has worked in public relations for a variety of organizations, including non-profits, faith-based, healthcare, communications, and retail. She also has worked as a public school teacher, teaching English and Journalism at the high school level. Alicia was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Winter Park, Fla. when she was 10 years old. She lives in Holly Springs with her husband, Eric and her dog, Roscoe. In her free time, she enjoys baking, reading, and traveling and cheering on the Florida Gators.

Patty Gothard is the Administrative Assistant to children and youth at First United Methodist Church-Cary. She has been at FUMC since 2003 and was a registered nurse prior to joining the FUMCC staff.
She has a B.S. in Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill and is originally from Kannapolis, NC. Patty is married to Evan Gothard and has three daughters, Erin, Rachel and Sarah.

Christine Hildebrand is the Financial Administrator for the church. Prior to this position, she was the bookkeeper at MCC since 2005. She’s been a church member since 1997. She earned a BA in Accounting from NC State University. Originally from Burlington, NC, Christine now lives in Cary with her husband, Greg and their two daughters, Emma and Lily.

Brent Hubbell joined the FUMCC staff in August 2006. A native of the New England area he attended Appalachian State University (as a piano performance and composition major) and University of Tennessee where he completed a Master of Musicology ABT. Brent has taught in the public school system, owned his own piano tuning and teaching business, and has served as staff accompanist at Mt Olive College. He has served as Music Director in churches in North Carolina and Virginia, most recently at Fuquay Varina United Methodist Church for almost 6 years.
Brent is married to Sara, a Nurse Practitioner. They have 2 cats and live in Holly Springs. For fun Brent enjoys being outside, windsurfing, swimming, running, biking and hiking. He also enjoys his participation in a variety of musical groups, most recently a Christian rock band as well as a fusion jazz group.

Linda Kiser is the Director of FUMC's childcare program, Methodist Children's Center, a position she has held since June 1999. As director, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the preschool and daycare. Prior to coming to MCC, Linda was a stay-at-home mom and an elementary school teacher. A native of North Carolina, she graduated from Meredith College with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. She is married to Jeff Kiser and has a son, Jim, a daughter, Sarah, and a cute little dog named Holly.

Janice Layne is the Administrative Assistant in the Leadership Development department. Janice Layne is the Administrative Assistant in Leadership Development at FUMCC. She has a BSBA in Management from Appalachian State University and a BS in Computer Science from East Carolina University. She has been a member of FUMCC since 1996.
Janice is originally from Charlotte, NC and is married to Frank Layne. They
have two children Zack and Blythe.

David F. Marlette is Director of Music Ministries at First United Methodist Church-Cary. He has a B.A. in Music Education from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC with a major concentration in voice, has accumulated several years of continuing education with Music and Liturgical Arts Week and has pursued graduate studies at SMU/Perkins School of Theology in Church Music. He served for ten years as Music Associate before being named Music Director in mid-2001. He is responsible for overseeing a vast music ministry of 27 choirs and groups, three paid staff and 13 volunteers. Prior to his work at FUMCC, he was an educator in the public school system. He taught high school choral music and band from beginner through high school level. He left the public schools and traveled with his wife singing professionally, then came to Raleigh to work in and later own an electronics business.
David is originally from Graham, NC. He is married to Phyllis and has one son, Jonathan. His hobbies include golf, bicycle riding, model trains and playing basketball or fishing with Jonathan.

Sheridan O’Connor is the Business Administrator at First United Methodist Church – Cary. As the business administrator, Sheridan‘s primary responsibility is to help all who conduct business with FUMCC. He began his career working in finance and business in the Marine Corps, and went on to earn a bachelors’ degree in business from SUNY at Plattsburgh in New York. In his spare time, he enjoys running and hanging out with his three dogs.

Karen Schreiner is recently joined the FUMCC staff as the Administrative Assistant for the Music Ministry. She has been a long-time church member, giving a lot of her time to the children’s choirs and serving as the head of the Children's Council. She lives in Cary with her husband, Eric, and children Olivia and Aidan.

Dawn Woody is the Director of Youth Ministries at First United Methodist Church-Cary. She brings over 20 years of experience in education, curriculum development and program management and holds degrees from UNC-CH and NCSU. A former public school teacher, Dawn has taught Language Arts, English and Journalism at both the middle and high school levels. As an Adjunct Professor at NCSU, she taught in the College of Education with the Secondary English Education program. She has also worked with the Department of Public Instruction as the Project Coordinator for the North Carolina Character Education Partnership and as a Program Consultant with the Kenan Institute of Ethics at Duke University. She was a founding member of the non-profit, North Carolina Center for Character Education.
Dawn was born in Birmingham, AL and moved with her family to North Carolina
at the age of 8. She is married to Tim and has three children ~ Zach, Hannah
and Caleb. They have been members of FUMC since 1991.
